Using fluorescent bacteria to detect landmines

A Nov. 16, 2009 ScienceDaily report describes how a research team from the University of Edinburgh made a bacteria that fluoresces (glows green) when exposed to materials leaking from landmines.  The bacteria can be sprayed from the air over suspected landmine areas.  This method could be very useful to detect landmines in many dangerous areas  The students who made the bacteria used a technique called biobricking which is to assemble the explosive-detecting bacteria from already developed components.
